Park City

Today I head out to Park City, UT for my annual ski trip. Looking forward to great powder and great times with friends, but the remixing will be taking a hiatus. Pink heels, blazers, and skirts for that matter don't really fit the bill at Park City. (Especially when it isn't Sundance).

So long, Midwest!

Restaurant Week - Day to Night Dressing

So Restaurant Week may be one of my favorite times of year in Chicago (I say one of since it happens more than 1x a year, and then there's Chef's Week...). Delicious food at great restaurants for a very affordable price! While I had a fabulous time dining with friends at Boka and Red Canary Tuesday and Wednesday night, I had to find a way to dress for work and for dinner.

If you haven't noticed yet from previous posts, my office is pretty casual: jeans is the norm. So while I like to "flex my style muscles" if you will, if I dress up too much people ask me if I'm going to an interview later.

So, for my first night out, at work I added a sweater to the outfit, finished it out with my ankle booties, and kept the jewelry minimal to keep it casual.

Outfit #21 2/22/11: Day Outfit
For that night I ditched the sweater, added some more jewelry (I'm really into stacking a bunch of bracelets lately), and put on my knee high riding boots for some practicality in walking to my destination (let's be honest). But I think they looked pretty great in changing up the outfit.

Outfit #21: Night Outfit
The following day I brought out my fab new dress again, and put together an outfit for both work and play. I had to go straight from work to a work event and then dinner, so there was no time for an actual change.

The riding jacket and riding boots brought a little bit of boyishness to the dress - and I just loved having the lace peaking out. As for the double necklaces, I added the bolder one for dinner.

President's Day!

I was off of work so it was time to run a bunch of errands and do all the things I never do on Saturday... haha. But seriously

Outfit #20 2/21/11
And I know I'm already a day behind. But we'll be doing a combo post for Tuesday/Wednesday's outfits.

What I'm wearing: top from Club Monaco, cardigan from Ann Taylor, jeans Marc by Marc Jacobs, Frye boots

A weekend of outfits

So I headed up to Wisconsin for the weekend to help out my mom at her Art Gallery, River's End Gallery. She had her big annual Glass event and I was on hand, and so was my remix, for all the projects!

I had to edit down my remix even more seeing as I had to pack everything up in a very small bag!

Friday: Casual day at work and taking the train

Outfit #16 2/18/11

Saturday: Getting the gallery set up for the evening event. Kept it super simple - my classic button down and jeans - but still put together to be in public.

Outfit #17: 2/19/11
Saturday Night: For the big event! As always, the skirt was a big hit. I'm definitely going to be utilizing this outfit a lot in the future!

Outfit #18: 2/19/11
Sunday: Working at the Gallery the taking the train back to Chicago in some miserable weather! How do begin to explain snow, then rain, then freezing rain, then snow again. But, at least I was comfortable in this outfit.

Outfit #19: 2/20/11
Glad to be back in Chicago!

What I wore this weekend: Friday: Ralph Lauren button down, cardigan from Ann Taylor, J Brand jeans, Frye boots, Saturday: Ralph Lauren button down, Saturday night: Top from Club Monaco, blazer from the Limited, skirt from Nordstrom, booties Sofft brand, Sunday: turtleneck from Forever 21

I told you I'd wear shorts!

OK so they're wool and I'm wearing tights (and booties), but hey, they're shorts!

Outfit #15 2/17/11

Love the lace detail on this top!

Loveee these booties

The weather was incredibly balmy on Thursday so it cooperated with me to wear this outfit. And my new Ralph Lauren jacket that I've been dying to wear since I got it. (Promise I'll eventually post pics of this beautiful piece of outwear).

Anyway, short post for now. I'm off tomorrow for President's Day so I'll be posting all my outfits from my weekend up in Wisco!

What I'm Wearing: Top from Forever 21, Shorts Vince (from forever ago), booties Sofft brand, necklace from Mom's gallery (more about that tomorrow)

Ready to Chop off my Hair

So I'm currently growing out my my hair to donate it to Locks of Love (again). While I still have awhile to go... this photo makes me want to chop off my hair tomorrow!

Photo by Tommy Ton photoblogger of jakandjil. Photo from Style.com
It probably helps that the rest of her outfit is totally bad ass - but I'm keeping this one on file for when I finally get to chop off my locks!

Finally rocking the dress!

Yesterday I had to dress for work + happy hour afterwards + walking through the flood zone that is the blizzard melting. So, here was my solution:

Outfit #14 2/16/11

Lace detail
I loveee this dress! It is the first time I've worn it. Not only is it in super comfortable (but thin) sweater material, and has long sleeves, but it has all this awesome lace at the bottom! It would be totally risque if I didn't wear the leggings with it, but love it. And of course I wore my dependable Frye boots - they're just the best.

What I'm wearing: BCBG Sweater dress with lace (on sale!), leggings from Urban Outfitters, Frye Engineer boots, Long silver necklace (gift from my sister)

A little Jenna Lyons inspriation...

So please bear with me as I have a cold coming on and my brain is in a total fog! But anyway... I have never received so many compliments as when I wore this outfit:

Outfit #13 2/15/11

(Sorry the lighting is pretty horrible - hello point and shoot camera! When I grow up I'm going to get a really nice camera, promise!)

A little Jenna Lyons, no? And I'm not even wearing any J.Crew!

Jenna Lyons and some of her JCrew staff from Elle

But besides my inspiration, a big thank you goes to my friend AMC (who also has a super cute blog) who talked me into not only the skirt, but the shoes as well! And naturally, those were the two items I received the most compliments on! So glad I put both of these items in my remix!

Also, as we're getting some balmy weather up here (in the 40's, oh my!) Look for more skirts, dresses, and shorts (don't worry, they're wool) on the horizon!

I'm wearing: Zara chambray button down, skirt from Nordstrom, Calvin Klein shoes, belt is "vintage", AKA I'm pretty sure it was my mom's

A few remixes...

I've been really bad about posting any remixes thus far.... so here's a little peak of a few outfits. I'm hoping when I get more time that I'll actually take some time to post the full outfits and accessories. Please bear with me!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Speaking of outerwear...

So let's say first off I've decided that this is separate from this month's re-mixing seeing as it's outerwear, and not "technically" part of my outfit.

So thanks to the team at WhoWhatWear, I found my self lusting over Anja Rubik's look. I've always been a fan of her, and today, of her coat!

Photo from WhoWhatWear post 2/10/11

One of the things I love about WhoWhatWear is that they always gives options for emulating the look. And lucky for me, Nasty Gal came through with a wonderfully priced alternative!

Photo from ShopNastyGal.com

Naturally, I snapped it up immediately. OK 5-7 business days, hurry up!

SOOO COLD

When I took this picture my phone read the temp at -4. Which does not even include the wind chill. And while the rest of us looked like blackened marshmellows to stay warm in the weather, she managed to still look put together!

Commuter at the Fullerton El 2/10/11

What makes her look different than the majority of other commuters? First of all the belt on the coat. Immediately it ups the look by giving her shape instead of looking like the Michelin man. She made a choice to wear leggings instead of slacks - which automatically make wearing tall boots & looking fashionable impossible. (If someone has made slacks tuck into boots in an attractive fashion, please share with the masses!!) I also love the contrast in textures with the shiny coat, the leather (aka non-UGG) boots, and the cozy sweater that goes right up to her chin. Last, but not least, I'm a huge fan of earmuffs in winter (I have the same pair!), since 1) It brings any winter look up a notch, 2) There's no hat hair and 3) No cold ears!

Stay warm!

The Super Bowl and The Super Bowl of Fashion

While I promise to eventually give an update on my remixes thus far... for now my mind is in other places. Mainly the Super Bowl.

My beloved Packers won the Super Bowl Sunday, and therefore it was time to take a break from re-mixing to some Packer fashion. There were wigs, hats, and of course a lot of green and gold! When it comes to fan fashion, who really takes more risk than a Packer fan?

A whole family of fans at the Packer Rally - who doesn't love all of that fur?

Talk about androgynous dressing: Matching  hats and Clay Matthews wig

Now those are some hats

And the Packer classic: The CheeseHead

So while it might be questionable that these midwestern fan-dom looks are really fashion... the undisputed Super Bowl of Fashion - NY Fashion Week - starts tomorrow!

While we may be a time zone away, as one of my fav blogs, the Man Repeller, says, use it as an excuse to go all out fashion wise! I'm feeling some remixing inspiration from her look, below:

Photo from The Man Repeller 2/9/11 post
Sparkle skirt, tights, fur vest? You bet I will! What better way to stay bundled in this miserable cold winter weather than a whole bunch of layering! And a great way to feel connected to the fashion week action.

Look of the Day: Red/Nude

Who What Wear is starting a new blog... and my favorite feature thus far is their look of the day. I am loving Rachel Bilson's color combination here... can it be spring yet?

Chicago Blizzard Style

Just because a crazy blizzard came through didn't mean we had to stay sequestered indoors forever! Once the snow stopped, it was time to venture out for some sledding and snow day fun :-)

And my friends sure know how to enjoy the snow day in style:

Making our way through the snow - love the patterned snow pants and coon cap!

Best friends in the weather: Snow pants, a great ski jacket and a fun hat!
Back to business as usual today, but very very cold! I sure am glad for the sweaters in my remixing selection!

Day 1 & Day 2 + Snowmageddon 2011

I returned from New York and on Monday night set aside my 30 items of clothing:
  • 9 tops (including button downs)
  • 4 sweaters
  • 3 blazers
  • 2 pairs of pants
  • 3 pairs of jeans
  • 2 skirts
  • 1 pair of shorts
  • 5 pairs of shoes
  • 1 dress
Luckily for me, and in this weather, UGG boots do not need to be included!

Here's some of the items i've set aside:

My 4 sweaters: necessary to survive Chicago winters
A collection of some of the clothes
Are these really the only shoes I'm going to wear in Feb??

Well after a great start on Day 1 - we've already come to a standstill with Snowmageddon 2011. I actually have my first grown up snow day today!

So instead of Outfit #2 - today it will be sweatpants and sledding!

Hoping to be "back on the wagon" and all business as usual for Thursday.
