Happy Holidays!

So it's already the holidays... time has flown! Tonight I have to pack for trips to Wisconsin and New York to visit family over the holidays.

Below is my inspiration for dressing over the holiday season:

Spring 2011 RTW: Paul Smith

As I'm sure you all know - Spring 2011 RTW is in full swing. The New York shows have already ended (at their new location in Lincoln Center), and we are in the midst of London.

One of the London shows that has really caught my eye is Paul Smith. I love a little borrowed from the boys and this show provided! The color scheme is fresh and the styling gives that certain confidence factor. Only wish I had a boyfriend with such great style to steal from.

Chicago's Fashion's Night Out 2010

Look for me to post more pictures soon - I've been very delayed with getting pics off my camera. (Oh that day job!)

Last year I participated in Fashion's Night Out in Chicago - but only Neiman Marcus was participating. That was why I was very excited to hear this year that Chicago was getting much more involved for Vogue's 2nd Annual initiatve. Some of the shops who participated this year were Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Macy's (as well as all of Water Tower Place), and H&M.

As there are so many  hours at the event, the girls and I only made it to Nordstrom, Macy's, and H&M.

1st Stop: Nordstrom

Nordstrom had a fashion show in the lobby outside of their store, which showed men's and women's looks. Some standouts included a fabulous classic men's suit, and a lot of animal print! Also saw some fabulous off-runway fashion from a few ladies. (Again, look for pics in a follow up post)

At Nordstrom I obviously went straight to the shoe department picking up a fabulous pair of heels by Joan & David. Joan & David Pumps at Nordstrom

2nd Stop: Macy's

Before we get to the store itself, wanted to note how fabulous it was to see how packed Michigan Ave was with people on Friday night! The word had really gotten out about the event.

At Macy's Water Tower Place location we headed right to contemporary, where they were passing out delicious cookies, and were doing a promotion with Gucci's new fragrance, Guilty, by having patrons share their guilty  pleasure. The winner received a basket of Gucci fragrance goodies. Sad I didn't win, but what a fun promotion! After walking out with a Rachel Rachel Roy dress, it was on to H&M...

3rd Stop: H&M

H&M was absolutely packed! We perused the aisles, but found the most success in their accessories department picking up some fun costume jewelry and for myself a faux fur scarf. Can't wait to bring that out in the winter months!

After all of that shopping excitement, the girls and I headed off to a late dinner and cocktails at Tavern on Rush. Overall a very successful and fun night - until next year!

Hangin' with the boys

Michigan Ave. 8/16/10

Kind of a fail with my first foray into taking photos of the unassuming public. Apparently I'm not yet an expert at snapping photos with my camera phone while trying to not look like a total creeper!

Anyway, love her outfit! It was a pretty hot day, but she manages to be cool and comfortable without losing style. While hard to see, she's wearing this fabulous printed scarf that softened the whole outfit and brought it all together. I have to say even the company she keeps all look pretty put together as well!

Chicago has style too

According to the majority of the fashion world I live in a "flyover" state. I'm well aware. And, while Chicago is overall a more casual city than some of our other larger cities (such as New York), it does not mean that it's devoid of style.

I'm out to prove that the citizens of Chicago have a lot to offer in fashion ad style. Stay tuned as I dispel the assumptions held about this beautiful city - one photo at a time.
